Day 177: Koriander

520 Masonic Way
Belmont, CA 94002
(650) 632-1902

On Saturdays, we usually try out new restaurants in & around our area and today we went to Korainder in Belmont. The ambience was good and interestingly one turn-off for us was the amount of food. We ordered bhel-puri, some biryani with dal makhani , and we ended up taking almost half of it & eating the left overs the next day, for lunch. Taste-wise, it was 3.5 out of 5.

Day 176: To the coffee connoisseur in the house

..there is a reason why people say 'Opposites attract!', which is the case with me and S. We are two people who have nothing in common, yet madly in love with each other. He is a coffee addict who can drink 5-6 grandes on a stressful day and I rely on a freshly brewed cup of tea every morning...:). this new coffee maker, still to-be-inaugurated is just for him. :D

Day 174: a taxi-stand to remember..

We were in NY for S's birthday last year and my SIL K, V and little S drove down to meet us there. We had a fun time roaming the bustling Fifth Avenue and this cute pen-stand was one of his gifts from her!.:)

Day 173: the loot from HMB

..some fresh mangoes, subtly sweet wildflower honey, a watermelon and juicy plums. this is what we could get from HMB (as we were already very late). I use the honey to slightly sweeten my morning herbal tea and I made a yummy smoothie out of the mangoes.. :D

Day 172: Half Moon Bay

For the long weekend, we went to Half Moon Bay which is about 15 miles from our place and the drive is as picturesque as you can imagine. It reminded me of the ghat road we used to take while going to Tirupati, a holy city back home which has the very famous temple of Lord Vishnu.
We went for just couple of hours (during evening time) and the waves, the water (No, I am not a beach person at all), the sunset - everything was just perfect.

Day 171: fireworks!

First of all, my apologies for such a bad, blurry picture as I was too engrossed to see the fireworks, here at Foster City and no time to think about aesthetics and angles. Can you believe it is my first ever 4th of July fireworks show. It was fun for first 10 minutes or so and then it became monotonous. the last 1 minute was fun again. :). night worth remembering, so photo-blogging! :D

Day 170: a new addition..

Both of our laptops are about 3 years old, used, abused, beaten up and almost on the verge of doom.A new addition was imminent and this time we went for a HP PC tablet. It is small (about 12 inch screen, Windows 7, 4 GB RAM, 320 GB HD), fast, sleek and has touch smart technology. Though S is reluctant to use it yet, I am all over it. :) Love it.

Day 169: Red Robbin burger

A fried egg on a burger patty with lettuce and mayo. What else could I ask for. We went for Red Robbin for dinner today and I ordered this. Now, I wonder why didn't I had it before. It was so sinfully yummy (You should know by now, that I am an eternal lover of eggs) and the fried egg added a nice twist to our age-old burgers. Yeh!

Day 163: Angeethi

The day before I was boarding my flight to CA, my friends at work took me for another farewell-dinner at Angeethi in Herndon VA. the food - was well less than ok but when you have some awesome friends with their family around, food becomes secondary. Isn't it. I had a fun time folks. Thanks a lot! will miss you all.

Day 162: Va Piano

I had my official farewell lunch at Va Piano , China town today. With its upbeat ambiance and yummy food, it became an instant favorite for all of us (esp first-time visitors). It still surprising how most of us in the group missed this amazing place all these years. A must visit for all Washingtonians out there :)

..and today is my last day here at office. these 2 years were definitely the best times of my life and would miss everybody. thank you all, if it were not YOU, I would have never been the way I am today.

Day 161: Zaytinya

If you would ask me to name one restaurant in DC that I would go again & again is Zaytinya. though it is a bit pricy (and certainly won't recommend for a very big group), the food is just superb. It is a mezze-menu so if you are really hungry, order 2-3 dishes. My all-time favorites are - Falafel, Hummus, Zucchini-Cheese fritters and the unlimited bread that they give with olive oil.

Mike, my boss took me here one last time, as my mini-farewell lunch. P.S I was too hungry to take some food-pics!

Day 160: sweet bites, a cupcake van

We, at our DC office are always curious about what kind of van would arrive at the junction (just below our office) every single day. Today, we had a cupcake van called 'Sweet Bites' by a lady called Sarah. they were decently good-tasting and I had a Red Velvet with Vanilla frosting cupcake. yum!

'Flour Tortilla Pooris' - I never heard of these before and my colleague P's friend U introduced them,at her anniversary party today. They were absolutely delicious. There was also - Chole, Sambar with rice and some non-veg entries. We had a lovely time playing 'Guess the Word' till late night. :) :)

Day 148 : Sweet Water Tavern

3066 Gate House Plz, Falls Church, VA - (703) 645-8100

Remember this photo, where I was talking about Sweet Water Tavern. It is a nice, noisy place where the usual wait on a Friday night is atleast 70 minutes. We had a reservation and the memories of the simple angel hair pasta with grilled vegetables came back to me. So, I ended up ordering the same thing, like last time and with that, I tasted Grilled Artichoke with Garlic Aioli dip! Yummmy :D :D

Day 141: Fojol bros of DC, a traveling culinary carnival

Fojol Bros of Merlindia (, are a bunch of Caucasian guys dressed up in Indian turbans with fake mustaches in their food trucks hit the DC roads everyday, during lunch time. They normally have 2 Veggie options and 2 Meat options with Rice for 6$ or 9$. I will not say the food is exemplary, tastes the same as in any mediocre Indian restaurant out there, but everything else about them is fun and enticing, including the sweet talk by the guy who takes the orders. ;)

I recently came to know that the company will donate proceeds from food sales to local children’s charities.. :) :)

Friday, June 4, 2010

Day 140: Quinoa drink..Yikes!

Today's lunch - Barley Tabbouleh which was yum, but the Quino-Mango-Passion drink that I got as its accompaniment was yuck! :( - It was all grainy and unpleasant.

When my boss had me taste *sushi* (with some veggie, which I don't even remember) couple of months ago, I invariably spit it out, because I didn't like the taste. But, today, to my surprise, I was actually dying to taste some vegetarian sushi. In the pic -you can see all 3 kinds: Sushi with cucumber, asparagus and avocado. I think I like avocado the best. What about you?? Any *sushi* fans out there.

Day 131: girls nightout...

I usually don't like sleepovers at somebody else's place. But, when one of my best friends at office suggested the idea of a girls-movie-night-out, I was like... why not. So, we came back from work, got ready, had some cocktails & dinner at this amazing Thai place and finally saw Shrek 4 3D. One of my best night-outs ever! What else would you ask for?
