..I kinda feel homesick from past couple of days. It has been 2 long years that I saw my family back home and I miss them terribly. :(. But, the best part is in less than 19 days I will be in India. Hurray!
..the picture above is of the electric diya, I have in my rather modest pooja mandir. :)
Dennis a.k.a Mr.Wonderful as I call him retired today. He is my best pal who lightens up your dull, morose day at work with his infectious smile and laughter. We had so many fun memories together in these 2 years that I would always gonna cherish them. You will be terribly missed Mr. Wonderful and hope your days of joy & fun begin from now on!
To me, it feels like Friday already [though it is not yet..:( ]. One of our office colleagues, R bought a new car and celebrated 10 years of his marriage. So, he threw a pizza party for all of us. We all had great fun. :)
I don't have much of a sweet-tooth at all, but today I was craving for some blueberry muffins, since morning. So, I came home early, followed this recipe (except I replaced whole wheat pastry flour with All-purpose flour) and the result is...
..though it was very soft and moist inside, the top was crunchy and a tad bit hard. I felt so disappointed that I called my gal pal for help. She says - probably I over-baked them? Or is it less butter? or is it because I used APF rather than whole wheat pastry flour? or do I need to whip the batter for certain amount of time, for right consistency?.. Help me find out why?..so that next time I can get right!
My roomie bought this beautiful cloth with Indian mirror work from Bikaner, India. The colors on it are so vibrant that they bring instant pop of color to our boring room. I would definitely want to have such a piece when I buy my own house, wherever it is! :D
Do you remember Jeannie, Major Anthony Nelson (Tony), Major Healey (Roger) and the ever-perplexed boss who always finds Tony doing the most bizarre things!. I am talking of 'I Dream of Jeannie', an American sitcom of 1960's. There is no way that you wouldn't LOL when you watch this show.
If you wanna reminisce the moments, just like me..watch the episodes on hulu.com :).
Today, we had our dinner at a local restaurant, Sweet Water Tavern. they are very popular for their seafood salads. Me, being a vegetarian had not much options. I had to order veggies with angel hair pasta (which was not on the menu) and to my surprise, it was very very tasty! I love anything charred, grilled vegetables.
Trust me the first pic is not doing justice to the yumminess of this instant-icecream which we made for one of our office colleagues T's pre-birthday bash today :). It is a keep-saker which can be made in a jiffy and has never ever failed me.
2 cans of 20 oz Crushed pineapple (in pineapple juice)
3 cans of 14 oz Sweetened condensed milk
2 boxes of 12 oz Lite whipping topping
Combine all of them in a bowl and freeze it for 5-6 hours. Once taken out, rest for 15 minutes and Serve!!! Yumm!
..It was late evening from work and my colleague gave me a ride home & I saw this wonderful hue of blue and snow surrounding the Washington Memorial. It was so serene and beautiful that I slided the window down, begged her to stop for a minute so that I could enjoy the view!
..I love parathas, especially the stuffed ones. But I am too lazy to make them on a regular basis. Yesterday, being Sunday..as I was blog-hopping, I saw Renu's post on Broccoli Paratha. Did I tell you, from past 1 week, I am trying to eat atleast 1/2 cup steamed broccoli every day. So, I instantly jumped off my bed, went to kitchen & made stuffed parathas after a long long time. though they a bit bland as-is, with a side dish of (yogurt + onion + chaat masala), it was very satisfying dinner! Thanks Renu for inspiring me. Next is to make Aloo Paratha.. real soon! :)
..I felt so nostalgic when I found this letter at S's place (during his move-out from NC). It was written by me to him for Valentine's Day of the year 2006. Every word in this poem, still is very very true and I am so thankful to God to send such a wonderful person like S.
Today was a very uneventful day. I had to work from home (..again!) due to the snow accumulated on roads and there are no metro service to DC. At the end of day, I got the parcel with my Anna jewels loot. (Click here for their website). Let me tell you, this is the best place to get some chic jewelery for very low prices & I love it. I think its been almost 2 years that I get my stuff from here & they are very quick & prompt in their delivery. Above are the ones which I ordered for myself & there were others too, which my friend had ordered.
,..after almost a week of dreadful snow & working from home, we got some sunshine (with gusty winds) today and I finally stepped out for my weekly groceries. My roomie, R got this yummy Godiva chocolates as my V'day present. Thanks babes :).
Sra said the other day on her FB that there was a suggestion to put up our own faces , atleast once a month in this photo-a-day-project. Hence - this mug! S got it done, I think in November last year. :) It is a collage of our pics together and sits dearly on my office desk! :)
Who dat? Who dat? Who dat say dey gunna beat dem Saints?
On Sunday's Super Bowl XLIV,New Orleans Saints won their first super bowl ever!! I don't follow American foot ball as much, but the kind of fervor you see for it here in US, is unprecedented. It is quite enjoyable to see a Redskins fan and a Cowboy fan fight over who is better!..pure fun..:) When I saw this gigantic wooden carving in our rental office today, it reminded me of Saint's symbol :) Cool huh!
..After yesterday's snow aftermath, everybody in our community was out & about working hard to clear up the snow in front of their houses & on cars. At about 3'o clock in the afternoon, it was a tad bit better..but still very chilly & windy!
Advice is like snow - the softer it falls, the longer it dwells upon, and the deeper in sinks into the mind.

From past two days, it was snowing cats & dogs here in DC area. Above are some pics taken couple of minutes ago in front of our townhouse. next ahead, is to shovel the snow..or else it will become ice...and the next thing that can happen is stripping over & bruising hands & legs (just like it did to me last time it snowed!).
S is leaving to CA tomorrow morning and we had our 'farewell dinner to Raleigh/Cary' at Bamboo Garden. It is an Indo-Chinese restaurant to which we were frequent visitors for past couple of years!. I took the pics of our food too, but due to the dim yellow light, they came out blurry. This one is the best I could get.
..a major part of my childhood is filled with memories of Tinkle comics & Uncle Pai. Almost every character - from Supandi to Shikari Shambu to Tantri the Mantri to Kalia, the crow.. fascinates me so much! I still get these - both Tinkle & Tinkle Digest by air-mail here to US.!..the pic is the cover page of this month's issue. :)
...this is (many more to come..) just one of the bags of shredded bits of paper done today...Mr.S (my fiancee) is moving..and he (...I just realized) is one of the biggest hoarder I ever met who saved every paper bill, every cinema ticket, every utility bill..literally everything possible from past 5 years....by the way, it is already 10:10pm..and we have 2 shredders running with 5 more bags to shred..Phew!!
...here I present you today - the first president of United States of America: 'George Washington'....8 times..:)...I happen to visit my friend who was in DC @ Washington Plaza Hotel..I took this picture there.
