Week 26/Day 181 - I am Ms. Eggstatic

I have about 17 Egg recipes on my blog and I make many more which usually don't end up there. Since I was a child, I loved eggs. Not sure what appeals me the most about them (I guess the taste & the versatility), everytime I run out of ideas, I make an egg dish. This is one ingredient, I don't have to think much ;-).

P.S - My all-time favorite recipe is this. Roti on an Egg. Yummyville.

Week 26/Day 180 - My Camera Bag

Have you ever been those who utterly, truly hate the bulky DSLR camera bags where it is impossible to find almost anything and everything. Ladies, think about US. Have you ever wished somebody, somewhere has time to design a stylish camera bag which looks like a handbag and nobody would ever know you have your dear DSLR hidden in it.

I surely wished for such a thing...

During my last few days in US and amidst of crazy-frenzy shopping, I stumbled upon this SwissGear GA-7841-02F00 DIANA Large SLR Camera Case. and I am so glad I did. It looks exactly like a handbag from outside, but inside you have 2 to 3 adjustable cushioned compartments which will safely hold a DSLR camera, an extra lens and misc items such as battery pack, camera manual etc. Isn't it neat?

This is how the interiors looks like....

But the sad part is, this bag is currently unavailable.. Once it is, I highly recommend it to be bought. A sure shot keeper.

*This is not a promotional post for Swissgear. All the opinions expressed in this post are mine in its entirety.*.

Week 26/Day 177 - The Custom

In most of the Indian traditions haldi (turmeric) is counted very auspicious especially during marriages. Elders of the family (women only) sing while they crush and grind fresh turmeric and later it is made into a smooth paste to be applied onto the bride. I missed mine (as we were in US at that time) but for my sister's, I made sure I captured every single moment of this ceremony. :-).

In the pic above, you ca see a big mortar & pestle and fresh turmeric too.

Week 25/Day 176 - The Married & The Engaged

As I mentioned in my previous post, I am in Hyderabad as my little sister is getting engaged. I couldn't be more happier for her. She will be tying a knot this October and start a new life from there onwards. I still can't believe my little baby's marriage is around the corner. I sound like a mommy I know, but that is how I feel right now and over the past few years she became my best friend with whom I can share almost anything and everything.

Love you Mincy. :-)

Week 25/Day 174 - Time of Roses

Time of Roses

It was not in the Winter
Our loving lot was cast;
It was the time of roses—
We pluck'd them as we pass'd!

That churlish season never frown'd
On early lovers yet:
O no—the world was newly crown'd
With flowers when first we met!

'Twas twilight, and I bade you go,
But still you held me fast;
It was the time of roses—
We pluck'd them as we pass'd!

Okra is one of my all time favorite vegetables and when paired with translucent onions with it, the taste is just delicious! I made this for dinner 2 nights ago, before my camera conked off.

Week 25/Day 171 - Latte Art

Latte Art, let me tell you not everybody can do it. When I was at CCD last time, I got to see first hand how its done. It needs good amount of practice and the result makes your coffee a tad bit more interesting!

Week 24/Day 169 - Induction Stove Cooking: Palak Dal

Personally speaking, I think cooking on an induction stove is challenging. The main problem here is heat control. Either is too high which will burn the food or too low that it will take atleast 40 mins to make a simple okra fry. I have got a gas connection finally. So, hopefully this is my last palak dal on this stove. It will be only used for emergency purposes from now on....:-)

P.S - Yep, I was cooking the dal like a porridge.

Week 24/Day 168 - Summer Drink Collection @CCD

Thanks to Mads, I got to visit Cafe Coffee Day today to taste their Summer Drink Collection, which includes beverages with unique flavors such as Kokum, Aam Panna, Thandai etc. No more is CCD just for coffee. The pic on the side is called "Keri Pop" made with raw mango, jaljeera etc. You can have it with soda or as a slush. The taste was so unexpected yet so familiar & delicious making it a perfect summery-beachy drink!

A complete review on my experience will be up real soon on my food blog.

Week 24/Day 166 - In Remembrance of Tatayya

Give sorrow words;
the grief that does not speak
Whispers the o'er-fraught heart
and bids it break.

~ William Shakespeare, Macbeth

It has been 4 long years since my beloved tatayya (mom's dad) passed away. He was a man of few words with lots and lots of love in his heart for his five grandchildren. For every summer holidays, we spent our time at grandparent's house, running & playing around in every room except his, because he is very particular about his things and for every birthday, we eagerly waited for his gift cover with our hand-written names on it. Now all I can remember is his million-dollar smile which we all would love to see, as it was a rarity. One serious yet affable personality he was. :-)

We love you always and We all miss you taatu.

P.S - The picture above is of my mother's pooja place, taken sometime last week. As my taatu is with god, I thought this was the best picture that depicts the heart-wrenching fact.

Week 24/Day 165 - These are a few of my favorite things # 2

I am a huge Ellen DeGeneres show fan as I find her very funny, very humane and very kind. When I was a student and didn't have a television at home, her youtube channel would give me a lot of company and once we bought a TV, this was the first program I set on my DVR. :-)

Since I was moving out of US for good, I ordered this cute Ellen mug with a spoon, which I never intend to use anyway but reminds me of the fun times I had back in US.

Week 23/Day 156 - Fragrant Whole Spices..

My mom buys whole spices at its best from various shops in Hyderabad and keeps them ready for us to pick up. This weekend, I was there to pick up my loot. Here are the whole spices..

Some of it was neatly packed in a dabba, to go!

..and the other half - roasted & ground into a powder. Nothing beats the taste, flavor and smell of a freshly ground garam masala.

These are some of the many perks that I get to enjoy for moving back to India ;-)

Love you mom.!

Week 22/Day 155 - The Laughing Buddha (Hotei)

If you ever come to my MIL's place, the first you will see is this man called Hotei (in Chinese).. he has a story behind his very existence. Here it goes -

"Chinese Call him Hotei and we call him "The Laughing Buddha". He is believed to have existed in China as a real Buddhist monk China over 1,000 years ago. Hotei, being a cheerful, contented Buddhist monk, is a wonderful little icon; where just the appearance can have the ability to cheer anyone up from a bad day. His largely exposed potbelly stomach protrudes in front of him as you almost hear the belly laughter emerging from the idol."..

May this laughing man spread his cheerfulness in each one of our lives. :-)
