Week 26/Day 177 - The Custom

























 In most of the Indian traditions haldi (turmeric) is counted very auspicious especially during marriages. Elders of the family (women only) sing while they crush and grind fresh turmeric and later it is made into a smooth paste to be applied onto the bride. I missed mine (as we were in US at that time) but for my sister's, I made sure I captured every single moment of this ceremony. :-).

In the pic above, you ca see a big mortar & pestle and fresh turmeric too.

  1. I remember when my sis got married that her husband had some thing like this too as he is from Andhra. You missed yours oh that is a pity.
    Must admitt i didn't had a traditional wedding at all, Hans and I got married in a registry office.

  3. Indeed it is, I woudn't want to get married to someone else just for having a glam party :-) ofcourse I am taling aobut some 20 years back but i am sure now in India if youfall in love with a non inidan there will be less problem.
