Week 34/Day 234 - P for Pink (Bling 2)

No, it is not mine.

This newly released pink Micromax Bling 2 was a birthday gift to my little sis . She was obsessed with it for god knows how long (though I am not a great fan of it, personally speaking). It is made with Swarovski Zirconia and comes with a white leather carry case enclosed with a compact mirror and special pouch. The Home button is encrusted with Swarovski crystals again.

Definitely not my type, but looking at my little sis glowing face, I feel for this phone a little. :-).

Week 34/Day 233 - O for Offering Prayers

I love lighting diyas. I think they symbolize divinity and sanctity in oneself. But I always had the electric ones as long as I was in US with a fear of burning down the house. Since, we moved back to India and because here the buildings are built with concrete rather than just wood ;-), I have started to light the 'real deepams' again.

These are some simple pleasures of life which I missed living in states...

Week 33/Day 232 - N for Newspaper (with my morning coffee)

For past couple of years, I had stopped drinking coffee. But, once I moved to India, thanks to my coffee-loving parents, I was tempted to grab a cup of coffee again!

Would you believe if I say this lofty ceiling is on a ship. A magnificent ship actually called "Pride of America" during and we stayed in this for 10 days during our Hawaii Trip.

This picture was taken during our Hawaii Trip and it says it all. ;-). Our guide made sure we didn't know about the fact that we were traveling on one of the most treacherous roads in the world.

Week 33/Day 228 - J for Jack-o'-lantern (look-alike)

It is not exactly halloween yet to talk about Jack-o'-lanterns but was having a mental-block about what to put for J and this pic came to my mind.

Having said that - posting with alphabets is not as easy as I thought. It is fun but challenging as well. :-)

Week 33/Day 227 - I for Independent India

It was the year 1613 when the British first stepped onto Indian soil and for the next 334 years, they ruled us. On August 15th, 1947, India became an "Independent India" and by 2011 it rose to become an "Incredible India".

A salute to all those martyrs who sacrificed their lives so that we could "see" and "live" in a country free from colonialism. Jai Hind!

Week 32/Day 223 - E for En·sem·ble

My mom, dad and little sister are in town. Yipeeee.

...and this in my first Varalakshmi Vratham (after moving back to India). Just their presence made the day so special and memorable. It reminded all the care-free days of my life - before marriage, before moving US, when I was studying college - my mom used to cook and me & my sister were just chilling out :-). thank you mom, you are the bestest ever and today is one of those days when I feel so glad and happy that we finally took the plunge to move back and be with you guys!. :-)

Week 32/Day 222 - D for Drrroolll

One of my all-time Andhra favorites recipes is - Gutti Vankaya (Eggplants stuffed with a thick paste of peanuts, sesame seeds, cumin seeds and some spices).

We have always managed to drool over it whenever I made some at home ;-). The way I make is very similar to Pavani's recipe.

Week 32/Day 221 - C for Chan Monks

"Budai" as he is sweetly called is a Chinese folkloric deity and he is believed to be an eccentric Chan monk.
Today, I have not just one but 4 of them here to wish you a very happy day ahead :D

Here is one other laughing budai which I posted in the month of May.

Week 32/Day 220 - B for Beans

I always have a tins filled with atleast two to three types of legumes, already cooked in my freezer. The days when I am late and totally exhausted, all I have to do is thaw them a little and dunk them a onion-tomato-gravy. :-).

How to cook dried legumes: Soak them in filtered water for 6-8 hours. Discard the water and pressure cook them on HIGH heat. Let the pressure be naturally released. If using Rajma (kidney beans), cook for 5-8 mins and for chickpeas - 9-14 mins.

Week 32/Day 219: A for Anger

Inspired by Roops A-Z P365 and then Sig's, I have started my own from today on, until the next 26 days. The moment I saw this cute little whisk at Mads house, I wanted to photograph it. I wonder what made this cute little dude to get angry ;-)

Week 31/Day 216 - Stir it Up!

Its been ages when I sat up whole night and finished a book in just one day, in one sitting!. Stir It Up, a novel by Ramin Ganeshram was one intriguing novel which talks about passion and determination to chase one's dreams, sprinkled with many recipes at the end of each chapter.

I strongly recommend this book for one and all, not just teens. :-). An absolute must read.
