One of the few books I read in less than 4 days! What a fantastic first novel by one of my favorite food writers, Ruth Reichl. Few reasons why I absolutely fell in love with it: 1) it is about food. (duh!) 2) the story happens in NewYork 3) I love Billie, the protagonist and how imperfectly perfect she is. 4) the brisk plot and underlying old world charm to it. 5) the killer gingerbread cake recipe. Though the story is predictable the brilliant writing more than makes up for it.
This book truly opened my eyes to the atrocities we, as human beings are capable of doing. It has happened then and it happens now. I read this book for two whole weeks, intentionally not rushing and absorbing it all. Highly recommended.
